A lawsuit was filed against the decision of the country’s President Nayib Bukele, who endowed the main cryptocurrency with the status of an official means of payment. The document says that the actions of the head of state are contrary to the constitution

El Salvadorian MP Jamie Guevara from the opposition Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front, together with a group of like-minded people, filed a lawsuit demanding that the presidential decree on the legalization of bitcoin be declared unconstitutional, El Mundo writes.

The lawsuit states that the decision of the El Salvadorian authorities to recognize the main cryptocurrency as a means of payment is contrary to the constitution, and can also become disastrous for the country’s economy.

One of the plaintiffs, Oscar Artero, claims that the law recognizing bitcoin as a means of payment is aimed at “robbing the population.” According to him, the country’s authorities want to force residents to trade cryptocurrencies.
